Den nordiska kulturen, landskapen och klimatet präglar konstnärsgruppen Art Alliance of the Arctic South (A-A-A-S), som består av åtta konstnärer: Dragos Alexandrescu (RO/FI), Linnéa Therese Dimitriou (SE), Heidi-Anett Haugen (NO), Hanna Kanto (FI), Lotta Lampa (SE), Patricia Rodas (FI), Anastasia Savinova (RU/SE) och Madelaine Sillfors (SE).

Gruppen arbetar med olika uttryck och format – från detaljerade collage till skulpturala installationer, videoverk och designobjekt. Det som förenar dem är en stark koppling till naturen och ett intresse för platsens betydelse för kultur och identitet. I deras verk utforskas både personlig och kollektiv identitet. De vidsträckta nordiska landskapen fungerar som inspiration och berättelse, med teman som kolonisering, ekologisk förödelse och sorge- och läkningsprocesser.

Från sina unika utgångspunkter, i periferin långt borta från traditionella konstcentra, erbjuder konstnärerna distinkta och intima perspektiv. De lyfter globala frågor som klimatkrisen och socioekonomiska utmaningar. Verken knyter samman dåtid och nutid, tradition och samtid. Genom deras arbeten uppmanas vi att reflektera över konstens roll i en tid av förändring och vår gemensamma framtid.

Utställningen skapar en dialog som är både nära och öppen, och som uppmanar oss att fundera över vår gemensamma väg och behovet av förändring. Verken berättar om uthållighet och tillhörighet – de kallar oss inåt, till oss själva och våra rötter.

Utställningen har tidigare visats på Swedish American Museum i Chicago, USA och Museum of Danish America i Elk Horn, Iowa curerad av Vasia Rigou. Den utökades senare till Österbottens museum i Vasa, Finland, med ett nytt urval av konstverk av konstnärerna. På Västerbottens museum inkluderar utställningen ytterligare nya verk. The Nordic culture, landscapes, and climate shape the artist group Art Alliance of the Arctic South (A-A-A-S), consisting of eight artists: Dragos Alexandrescu (RO/FI), Linnéa Therese Dimitriou (SE), Heidi-Anett Haugen (NO), Hanna Kanto (FI), Lotta Lampa (SE), Patricia Rodas (FI), Anastasia Savinova (RU/SE), and Madelaine Sillfors (SE).

The group works with various expressions and formats – from detailed collages to sculptural installations, video works, and design objects. What unites them is a strong connection to nature and an interest in the significance of place for culture and identity. Their works explore both personal and collective identity. The vast Nordic landscapes serve as inspiration and narrative, with themes such as colonization, ecological devastation, and processes of grief and healing.

From their unique starting points, on the periphery far from traditional art centers, the artists offer distinct and intimate perspectives. They highlight global issues like the climate crisis and socioeconomic challenges. The works connect past and present, tradition and contemporaneity. Through their creations, we are invited to reflect on the role of art in a time of change and our shared future.

The exhibition creates a dialogue that is both intimate and open, inviting us to reflect on our shared path and the need for change. The works speak of resilience and belonging – they call us inward, to ourselves and our roots.

The exhibition has previously been shown at the Swedish American Museum in Chicago, USA, and the Museum of Danish America in Elk Horn, Iowa, curated by Vasia Rigou. It was later expanded to Ostrobothnian Museum in Vaasa, Finland, with a new selection of artworks by the artists. At Västerbotten Museum, the exhibition includes additional new works.
